I’m sitting in Summer Moon as another Friday dawns on us. I am sleepy and it’s a Big Event day at work — miles to go before we sleep, but I am really starting to look forward to my mornings at summer moon and Five Things Friday. So, without further ado, here are five things I have loved this week.
1. This Google commercial.
Have you seen this incredible commercial celebrating so any phenomenal Black Americans? I think it’s beautiful and powerful in every way.
2. She Reads Truth on the That Sounds Fun Podcast. Last night I listened to the She Reads Truth girls, Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams, on the That Sounds Fun podcast. They were on to talk about their upcoming Lent series (they somehow always talk me into ordering their latest study!), but their discussion at the beginning on how they’re parenting their children through grief was moving. Incredibly so. And, if I can be honest, it was a moment of tender solidarity being reminded that lots of families are navigating loss and spend special days like birthdays, Christmas and Easter in a cemetery. And most importantly, the truth that we have so much hope to lean on. Gracious, hope like nothing else on earth. I’m planning on relistening to the episode soon. You can find it here.
3. The Widow of Nain account in Luke 7. On a similar note, God surprised me this week with a gospel passage I have no memory of ever reading before: the widow of Nain. I sat there Wednesday morning in awe. Jesus is so tender in the story, to this mother who has lost her only son. He stops the entire funeral procession and brings the boy back to life right there on the spot. I can’t wait to spend more time with the story. I think I will hold it close for the rest of my life. Read it here.
4. More spring fashion. Ordered a necklace called “The Girl Who Lived” from The Bluest Willow because 1. That name is exceptionally great (yes, Harry Potter forever) and 2. It feels like such a statement of what God has and is doing in my life. What He wants to do in all our lives. He is making me the girl who lives and I am so very thankful. Also, saw these wide-legged jeans by Universal Threads and made a trip to Target to try them on last night. Will definitely be adding them to my spring line-up. I know it’s only February 7, but spring, we’re ready for you! (And while we’re talking about it, these earrings are pretty great too.)
5. Travel. Dreaming of Paris big time right now. And Boston! And Banff, New York (the Diana and Mrs. Doubtfire musicals are on my list) and Mongolia. Where’s on your travel list for this year?
