Snow days are like grace.
I know with our to do lists and work projects and timelines, we tend to think that snow in March is a terrible, inconvenient idea. We would rather grind on instead of accept rest, sit in a few moments of quiet and take time to breathe deep and slow. We’d rather keep on with our schedules and dinner dates, and are frankly annoyed that the world would think to step in our way and interrupt us. But God isn’t all that concerned about what we think we’ve got to get done. He just sends the snow, cancels our days, pulls the sun out to shine and piles on the grace. He gives us more than we think we need, more than we think we’re allowed to have, more than feels justified by what we’ve done. And that’s the point.
Grace is like a snow day – it doesn’t ask when we’d like for it to show up. It just shows up and with an overwhelming presence, gets to work covering up our hurry, our hurt and our hearts with a fresh blanket of enough, of rest and of satisfaction.
Grace, y’all. How sweet it is!
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.” -Matthew 11:28-30
