I’m thankful for so many people that a year ago this time, I didn’t even know existed. I love their personalities and their talents and how different they all are. I love that so many of them are artists of one kind or another and that that connection syncs us in a way I’ve never quite known. So many of them love the Lord and remind me often of His love for me – I love that this group is becoming my people.
I’m thankful that I’ve watched friends move deeper into jobs, into God-given talents, into relationships, into their hearts and souls. And, I am so thankful that I get to call them my people.
I’m thankful that I have a place to be every day. It’s not glamorous and it’s not where I want to be forever, but it’s an answer to a prayer I cried over and over and it’s where I’m suppose to be.
I’m thankful that being pulled in a dozen directions has forced me to prioritize my wants and needs.
I’m thankful that in the bitter days and broken moments of the past year, when it felt like nothing would change, He always showed up.
I’m thankful for a life that’s being built exactly where a year ago I didn’t want it to. What once was empty now overflows.
I’m thankful for his workshop and how he continues his nailing, chiseling and sanding.
I’m thankful for honest stories and the people that tell them.
I’m thankful for deep soul aches that tell me there’s more to come.
I’m thankful for a nephew who’s pretty much the best boy ever. And I love that because of him, I’m seeing my brother and sister in law and parents in new ways.
And, I’m thankful for a God who is love and patience and kindness, joy and peace and faithfulness. I’m thankful that He has been all those things to me this past year and that he has brought those things to life in me. I’m thankful that Jesus is a God about redemption and restoration – and that He that reminds me of that every day as He shows up to our workshop. I’m thankful that in this last year, He has made my awareness of my need for Him deeper and rawer. He is greater than we dare to believe.
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:22-24

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
