Are you tired of my Shauna quotes yet? (If you answered yes, this only tells me that you haven’t started reading her books and you remain unaware of her mad truth-telling skills. Get on it!)
Back to the quote, it’s a tension isn’t it – feeling content while hoping for more, saying this is enough when your heart longs for something deeper? I think at the center of it is that pesky issue of trust. It never goes away, does it?
Trust….
that God will do what he says he will.
that he really, truly loves you.
that he is not late or slow-moving, but rather perfect in his timing.
that he is the author, the completer, the perfector of your faith.
that he knows you and your needs and your middle of the night, all alone, no one’s looking or listening, deepest desires.
and that as Father, he longs to be gracious to you.
If we trusted Him – head-over-heels, fully and truly – I think we would find the willingness to wait. We would find joy in today, in this very moment of breathing and being. And we would learn that while we may hope and dream for new seasons and deeper adventures, here in this moment, what we have is enough, it is right and that the things of the future will come not in good time, but right time. We would find that waiting for his timing is worth it because He delivers deeper and richer versions of our dreams than we knew to be possible, hilarious in their absolute tailoring for who we are.
He is worth the waiting. What He has for us is worth the persevering.
So in that spirit, I agree with Shauna that today is enough. Right here and right now.
