I’ve wanted to tell you about Bittersweet since pretty much page two of its introduction. (And if I’ve hung out with you at some point in the last week, there’s a good chance I did already gushed about this book to you.)
It’s just…so you remember the break-through moment I had last week about Fort Worth? And before that, me talking about having no idea at all about the future? Well, right on the heels of all that I started reading Bittersweet by Shauna Niequist.
I should say that the book had been sitting on my nightstand since I checked it out from the library at Christmas – and I almost returned it, but it just so happens that I opened it up right in the middle of all these quiet, yet big shifts in my head and heart. And rushing in came Shauna’s words – words about life and dreams, struggles and prayers, grace and friendship, fellowship and trial. Words that addressed life right where I was, where I am coming from and where I hope to be headed.
Quickly, I started making a mental list of all the quotes I wanted to share of hers – good things, thoughtful things, hard things, sad things, things that make you sit back and say, “Ohhhhh!” and “YES!” But then the list started growing and tumbling and at this point, if I shared them all I’d basically be ripping off her book. So please, take my word for it friends, her words are good and deep and I recommend spending some time with them.
My dear dreamers, my fellow writers, brethren 20-somethings, those that are starting anew, those that are struggling, those that are searching, dear friends – there is something for all of you. And if you need someone to discuss it all with, you’ve got a friend in me – I’ll probably be talking about this book for the rest of my life anyways.
