Every Christmas season since the 4th grade, my dad has taken me to the ballet. And every year, save for one or two when we jumped out of the box, we’ve goen to see The Nutcracker. Have you ever seen it?
We dress up and drive downtown to witness the beautiful costumes, fake snow falling on the audience’s heads and with Tchaikovsky’s music in our ears, watch the dancers fly through the night. I don’t actually know if he even enjoys the show, but as I think about how many years we have done this same night, it feels really special that he’s always made it a priority in the busy season. Tonight marks our 16th year and as the lights dim and the familiar music plays, I know my mind will flip back to the night that that nine year old girl, sitting in the next to last row of the auditorium, saw the ballet with wide eyes for the very first time and how much she has grown and changed since.
Do you have any not-to-miss holiday traditions? I’d love to know!

P.S. While we’re talking about ballet, have you ever seen this video, Le Vent? Meaning “the wind” in French, the video shows two dancers, Marina Kanno and Giacomo Bevilaqua from Staatsballett Berlin, in super slow motion – it’s absolutely amazing.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
