Out today, The Casual Vacancy is JK Rowling’s new, nonmagical book. Yes, I could go on and on for days about how like millions of other Millenial kids, I fell in love with Rowling’s famous magical world from the opening lines of the series’ first book, however, I won’t do that to you. The short version: the way she creates a world from the street to the sky, with depth and vibrancy and detail? Well, it’s awe inspiring. Today, I’m interested in is discovering what JK Rowling does with a book set in the world that the rest of us live in.
I tend to faithfully, even stubbornly (Lance Armstrong, I’m look at you) believe in my favorite inspirational figures, so I’m pulling for her – and this book. My guess is that sitting on top of a one billion pound fortune, this book was written for the love and the challenge of words instead of a monetary payoff. That, already, is a rather fortuitous sign.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
