Question: On a scale from Fort Worth to Williamsburg, how hipster am I if I kind of really want a record player and vinyl collection?
Lately I’ve been thinking about how much less chaotic they feel than my iPod whose songs and artists I often schizophrenically switch out. Honestly, when in iPod world was the last time you listened to an entire album in a single sitting? My dad still has a considerable record collection that includes some really awesome classics like Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Billy Joel’s The Stranger, Elton John’s Greatest Hits and The Beatles’ Meet the Beatles that I would love to dig into; accordingly, some modern bands like the Civil Wars and Mumford and Sons also sell vinyl versions of their albums making it a win win situation. Plus, you have to admit that the scratchy static as you place the needle at the beginning of the record may be one of the best sounds ever.
There are a surprising number of places where you can buy the new old music player, like Urban Outfitters for about the the price as an iPod. So which do you prefer – modern invention or a visit to the past?
