Caroline and I met in a writing class my senior year at Baylor. Paired for a project, I have a vivid memory of her interviewing me. There came a moment when I shared that I had recently started a blog (that was three years ago now!) and she asked what my most recent post was about. I knew in the seconds it took to decide an answer that this was a pivitol moment for me. Was I going to take the next step and share my faith and my deeply personal thoughts out loud, (and with a growing audience as I noticed as my professor looked up to hear my answer) or was I going to shirk it off with a dodgy, fluffy answer?
I took a breath, and then for one of the first times, really told the full truth about how I felt and what I thought. I link that moment with what was happening more broadly in my life at the time – waking up to my love of writing and the power of opening my heart and letting it spill out in words for others to read. It was like a stop light turning green. And instead of sitting in an idling car, I pressed on the gas and just went.
And ever since that project, I’ve felt a certain connection to Caroline; we began our blogs around the same time and I continue to read hers to this day. Now in seminary, she is a source of constant encouragement, sharing her heart and earnst desire to live life well and with a true commitment to Christ. I wrote a guest post on her blog today about change – a theme of my life these days – so go check it out. And while you’re there, go ahead and check out her other guest posters this week – they are all fantastic! Thank you again, Caroline, for the opportunity!
