The saying says you never forget your first love. How deeply true it is – not just for me, but for you too. His name is Jesus and whether you know him or not, whether you acknowledge his love for you or not, the saying is still true. Can’t you feel it? Feel Him? Deep down in the very beating of your heart. Layered within your very being. In those moments of silence and quiet rest. In moments pumping, thrilling exhilaration. He’s there, your first love.
He thought up your favorite foods, created the colors you love. The ideas that have impacted you, the places you long to visit, the sounds you turn your ear towards – He thought of them all – and knew you would love them too. For me he drips brilliant colors across the sky, puts a chill in the air that sinks straight to my bones, made elephants, the color blue, big sky, mountain views and strawberry-flavored many-a-thing.
He also gave us companions to do life with – these often become our next loves. He shines through my friends’ hearts, words and deeds. It is my honor and rich pleasure to do life with them. He teaches and loves me through the constant love, affection and encouragement of my family. Our first love gives us the best gifts.
He is our first love and he’s impossible to escape because he’s also our forever love.
Great is the Lord. His love endures forever.
He makes our hearts new. He picks us up from from the depths. We can’t forget him because he is our constant love. He is our true love because his love is not dependent on what we do, but who he is.
I have found the one my soul loves and it is you my Lord. You are my first love.
